What type of academic background makes a student eligible for P4?
The program is designed for academically competitive individuals seeking to fulfill their science requirements and participate in extensive shadowing and volunteer opportunities before applying for admission to medical or pharmacy school. Therefore, it is not a ‘grade-enhancer’ program for applicants desiring to improve their grades in the basic sciences. 

If you have completed more than half of the required coursework for medical or pharmacy school or if you have taken the MCAT/PCAT, you are not eligible for this program

How many slots are available in the program?
For our upcoming 2013 cohorts, we anticipate to accept 30 students per cohort.

When is the application deadline?
Summer (1year accelerated): March 1st
Fall (2 year): June 1st.

Applications received after deadlines will be reviewed at the discretion of P4 Admission comittee and on a space available basis.

What’s the difference between the 1-year accelerated and 2-year tracks?
The one-year accelerated track is available for students enrolled in the pre-medical program only. This option provides students the opportunity to complete their pre-requisites for medical school in less than 1 year.
The two-year track is available for all students. This opportunity (1) allows for students to gain in-depth experience in the medical and pharmacy fields and (2) provides more time for students to study for their basic science courses and entrance exams.

How can I check the status of my application?
The Office of Admissions will contact applicants upon receiving their application and notify them when the application is complete. You may contact the office to check on your status by phone at 215-503-4400 or email us at jcgs-info@jefferson.edu.

Can I work full-time while enrolled in the program?
P4 classes and cohort-related activities will be held during most weekdays – no earlier than 8AM, ending by 5PM. We encourage students to use the additional time for shadowing and other volunteer opportunities in order to gain more in-depth experience with mentors from various venues in the healthcare community.

While I’m enrolled in P4, what type of facilities will I have access to at Jefferson?
While enrolled in P4, you are a student of Thomas Jefferson University and are offered access to campus facilities and activities, including the fitness center, health and counseling services and participation in student life activities and organizations. Please visit our Student Activities Office webpage for more information.

What will P4 students do during the summer between their first and second year?
We highly encourage students to use their summer for extensive participation in shadowing and volunteer opportunities with mentors in healthcare-related fields. Students may also use this time to register for electives, such as Biostatistics, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, etc.

How will P4 prepare me for MCAT and PCAT exams?
One Year Accelerated Track: As part of their curriculum, P4 students will take an MCAT preparation course. In addition, there will be a comprehensive review for students at the end of their basic science coursework.

Two Year Track: During the second year, P4 students will take the MCAT or PCAT preparation course. In addition, there will be a comprehensive review for students at the end of their basic science coursework.

We suggest that students take their entrance exams within six weeks following the comprehensive review.
