General Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for federal, state, institutional, and many private sources of financial assistance, students must meet the following conditions:
- Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizens
- Must be admitted to or enrolled in a degree program (“matriculated”) or must be admitted to or enrolled in an approved certification program (Please not that some certificate programs may not have been approved for said eligibility.)
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Must be a half-time or full time student in any semester in which you are applying for aid. Half time for undergraduate students is defined as 6 credits and for graduate students, half time is defined as 5 credits.
- You must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) toward a degree. Consult your school Handbook or Catalog for details on SAP
- If the student is male, ages 18-26, he must be registered with Selective Service
- Must not be in default on a federal student loan such as a Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Direct Loan, Federal PLUS Loan, Federal GRAD PLUS Loan or a Federal Perkins Loan
- Must not owe an overpayment for a federal grant such as a Federal Pell Grant or Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant
- Must not have reached or exceeded the annual/aggregate loan limits for the Federal Direct Loan program
