Biotechnology Certification
There is no national generalist certification in biotechnology. With a combination of academic preparation and work experience, biotechnology graduates may prepare for special qualification or certification examinations in molecular genetics, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and other areas of laboratory practice.
Cytotechnology Certification
Graduates of the cytotechnology program are eligible to sit for the national certification exam administered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification. Successful completion of this exam confers the certification CT(ASCP) and assures that program graduates have met the entry-level competencies for practice in the field and are employable. Jefferson graduates have a very high pass rate on this exam, with a 100% pass rate in 2007. Cytotech graduates also have the opportunity to achieve ThinPrep® and/or AutoCyte® certification.
Medical Laboratory Science Certification
Employers seek certified individuals because they know that people with professional credentials can be counted on for the value-added expertise that is in such high demand today. Medical Laboratory Science graduates are eligible to take the Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP) examination of the Board of Certification of the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
