Basic Life Insurance and AD&D

Jefferson provides eligible employees with Basic Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Disability (AD&D).  The amount of coverage varies depending upon your position and base pay as shown on the chart below.

Basic Survivor Benefits

Faculty and Senior Administrators 150% of base annual salary $50,000 $50,000
House Staff, Postdoctoral Fellows 100% of base annual salary $50,000 $50,000
All Other Employees, including part-time 50% of base annual salary $50,000 $50,000
 
Life insurance coverage reduces by ½ for employees age 70 and over.  Life insurance coverage is rounded to the next $500 increment.

Business Travel Insurance

If an eligible employee is injured or killed while traveling on Jefferson business, his/her beneficiary may receive an additional benefit based upon the nature of the injury.

Optional Life Insurance and AD&D

If you are eligible for Basic Life Insurance you may choose any of the three optional survivor benefits:

  • Life Insurance for yourself, up to four times your base pay to a maximum of $1,000,000
  • Supplemental AD&D Insurance for yourself or your entire family from $50,000 to $500,000, not to exceed 10 times your salary.  Family members will be covered at a percentage of the value of the employee’s coverage.
  • Dependent (spouse, registered domestic partner and child(ren)) Life Insurance to a maximum of $20,000 for a spouse and $5,000 per child
