Jefferson University's College of Health Professions' Center for Faculty
Development (CFD) was established in 1994 and offers a wide variety of
activities and services designed to enhance the academic environment within
higher education. By providing a wide range of professional development
activities and promoting the active dissemination of instructional knowledge,
the Center supports the University's mission by enhancing the quality
of teaching and learning and the ability of faculty to thrive as instructors,
scholars and professionals.
The mission of the Center for Faculty Development is to provide leadership
and support for a community of emerging and established scholars while
fostering an academic environment conducive to teaching, learning and
scholarship. Center goals are:
- Improvement of teaching
- Professional growth of faculty
- Enhancement of the academic climate
New faculty orientation, forums, seminars and workshops constitute regular
programming activities of the Center. Individual services include the
Center Associates, classroom videotaping, individual consultation, peer
observation and mentoring, syllabus/test preparation and review, and preparation
of teaching evaluation forms.
The Center also provides consultation and expertise in curriculum development
and evaluation as well as student outcomes assessment. In cooperation
with CHP's Learning Resource Center and TJU's AISR, the Center works with
faculty to incorporate computer and other technologies into curricular
design and evaluation. To encourage and support faculty research and scholarship,
including funding, the Center offers programs and consultations in collaboration
with the Center for Collaborative Research. In support of faculty development
in all areas-teaching and learning, curriculum development and evaluation,
student outcomes assessment, research and scholarship, and application
of technology-the Center maintains a library of books and journals for
faculty use and reference.
While the Center for Faculty Development is organizationally located
within the Jefferson College of Health Professions, its programs, services
and publications are available free to the University community. The Center
develops off-campus programs to meet the specific needs of institutions
of higher education in the United States and abroad. The Center is located
