CARAH Research Scientist Featured on NPR

Nancy Hodgson, RN, PhD, Research Scientist at Thomas Jefferson University’s Center for Applied Research on Aging and Health was recently interviewed by the west coast affiliate of NPR, KNPR Las Vegas. The segment, which ran on the “State of Nevada” program on February 20, focused on the topic of dying alone, specifically on the challenges of finding the cause of death for the estimated 1,000 Clark County residents who died alone in their homes last year from natural causes.

NPR invited Dr. Hodgson to participate in the radio broadcast because of her background in the Demography of Aging and her work on end of life care in the medically frail elderly population.

The entire segment, including Dr. Hodgson’s interview, can be accessed at http://www.knpr.org/son/archive/detail.cfm?ProgramID=1265

Dr. Hodgson is a research scientist in the Center for Applied Research on Aging and Health (CARAH) and an assistant professor in the School of Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University’s Jefferson College of Health Professions. Her funded program of research focuses on the enhancement of science-based nursing practice in chronically ill older adults at the end of life. Dr. Hodgson also coordinates the interdisciplinary lunch series in gerontology offered by the College.
