From Japan With Love: Jefferson Students Blog While Abroad
Jefferson students won't be sending postcards from sunny tropical locales this spring break. As a continuation of the schools' nearly 14-year partnership, several students from the Jefferson School of Health Professions are visiting Japan's Kitasato University over spring break and will be chronicling their experiences by blog.
On March 1, six occupational therapy, physical therapy, and radiologic sciences students jetted from Philadelphia to Tokyo, where they were warmly welcomed by the faculty of Kitasato University. During the 1-week program, students will visit clinical sites around Japan and will give a presentation about Jefferson to Kitasato University students and faculty. Christina Truluck, PhD, CNMT, RT(N), Assistant Professor and Program Director/Clinical Coordinator for the Nuclear Medicine program in the Department of Radiologic Sciences accompanied the students and plans to meet with her Japanese colleagues to discuss opportunities for further collaboration.
The exchange is part of an interprofessional, semester-long independent study. Prior to the trip, students gave presentations at Jefferson and corresponded with their Japanese colleagues. While in Japan, student travelers will communicate via blog and Skype with the Jefferson student alternate and with Susan Toth-Cohen, PhD, OTR/L, Associate Professor and Director of the Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program, who is coordinating the exchange. Maggie Rinehart Ayres, PT, PhD, Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Education in the Department of Physical Therapy is also on board as one of the three course faculty who will help students prepare their presentation and an article for publication in a local healthcare newspaper.
Students will chronicle their experiences abroad through daily blogs starting on Sunday, March 2. Read it for yourself at http://jchp2008.blogspot.com/
