Transitional DPT Program

In the fall semester of 2005, JSHP began a transitional DPT (tDPT) program that enables US-licensed physical therapists to attain degree parity with therapists who hold the DPT degree. The program has a hybrid design aimed at students who work full time. The courses combine online coursework with one or two weekend days of on-site classes per course. For both bachelor's and master's degree students, Integrated Clinical Affiliation credits will be waived with documentation of professional clinical practice experience. Up to nine credits will be waived for master's degree students who have documented clinical practice as a licensed physical therapist (Bachelor's degree students can have up to 12 credits waived.) MSPT students will be able to complete the course work in as little as one year of part-time study; BSPT students will require 1 ½ to 2 years to complete the degree.

Good news for alumni: all graduates of JSHP's Department of Physical Therapy are eligible for the Jefferson School of Health Professions tuition discounting program: 25% off the graduate-level per-credit tuition.

Admission Requirements for the tDPT Program

• Transcripts indicating graduation from a CAPTE accredited entry level physical therapy program if other than Thomas Jefferson University
• Transcripts from any post professional coursework completed beyond the entry-level degree, i.e. advanced masters degree programs.
• Proof of current U.S. licensure to practice physical therapy
• Proof of at least 6 months clinical practice experience post licensure.
• CV/resume
• One page personal statement listing professional goals and objectives
• 2 letters of reference (at least one from an employer/supervisor or someone who can attest to the applicant's clinical practice time/ability)
• Completed application with appropriate fees
• Evidence of ability to meet any technologic requirements for participation in the program. (Computer literacy is required).
• If waiver of clinical coursework is requested, applicant must complete the form which documents clinical practice experience.
