Jefferson Urology Society
The Jefferson Urology Society is a student-run organization that provides medical students with the opportunity to learn more about the exciting and dynamic field of Urology.
The goal of the society is to promote interaction among students, residents and faculty via informational sessions, research, shadowing opportunities and charitable events. The organization also works to provide interested students with faculty mentors who serve as role models and advisors for students who are interested in pursuing a career in urology.
Elections for the Jefferson Urology Society executive board were held on February 17th 2011. The new executive board for the year of 2012-2013 is as follows:

Robotic Lecture/Demonstration - Urology Society
General Interest Meeting (Dr. Shenot/Residents) -
Exposes students to the field of Urology covering the scope of urologic diseases and treatments (both medical and surgical) undertaken by urologists. Answers basic questions concerning training, lifestyle, compensation and day-to-day activities of urologists.
Prostate Cancer Screening - Students assist in preparation and execution of annual prostate screening days covering approximately 500 patients at 2 sites (Methodist Hospital and Kimmel Center). The screening process involves serum PSA testing and digital rectal exams.
Robotic Lecture/Demonstration (Dr. Lallas) - Students receive a lecture on the history of robotic surgery in urology followed by a hands-on demonstration of the da Vinci robotic in a Jefferson operating room.
Prostate Cancer Run - Students participate in the annual 5k run raising money and awareness for prostate cancer in the Philadelphia region. Students help man the Jefferson Urology table distributing information during the event.
Post-Match Panel - Annual panel of 4th year students after successful match into urology residency programs. Affords undergraduate students the opportunity to ask questions and gather advice on the application process.
Robotic Lecture/Demonstration (by Dr. Costas Lallas) – On March 18th, the Jefferson Urology Society organized and held their annual lecture on the history of robotic surgery in urology followed by a hands-on demonstration of the da Vinci robot in a Jefferson operating room. Students were able to ask questions and were give the rare opportunity to sit behind the operating console of the robot. This year’s turn out was extraordinary, and was the highest of any for this lecture in the past.
Testicular Disease Awareness Initiative - Beginning this year students will travel to local Philadelphia high schools to give talks on testicular health including self examinations, sports trauma/protection, and diagnosing testicular emergencies.
