The Jefferson School of Population Health (JSPH) builds on the 18-year history of excellence in examining the quality, cost, and policies applied within the healthcare system. JSPH is proud to have one of the oldest and most established outcomes research fellowship programs in the country, with more than 30 successful alumni to date.
All two-year fellowships will begin in July 2010. JSPH will recruit for the fellowships listed below at the 2009 ASHP Midyear Conference in Las Vegas, NV. The contact information of the respective fellows and their programs has been provided so feel free to contact them if you have any additional questions.
All fellowships offered through JSPH are now listed on the CareerPharm PPS web site. Initial interviews for this year’s Midyear Conference can be scheduled through PPS.
Jefferson School of Population Health
This innovative two-year post-doctoral fellowship offered by JSPH is designed for pharmacists who seek a non-traditional career path aimed at improvement of health at the population level. The program prepares fellows for careers in academia, pharmaceutical industry, care management, and other settings, by creating professionals who can apply their pharmaceutical knowledge to efforts to improve access to care, quality of care, and cost-effectiveness of care. Fellows develop skills in population health research and policy analysis through joining the School’s research team and working on a wide range of projects.
Fellows also have the opportunity to take courses and pursue a master’s degree at Jefferson in one of several disciplines, including Public Health, Quality and Safety, and Health Policy. The School’s research agenda spans healthcare quality measurement and improvement, health services delivery and financing, health economics and outcomes research, disease management and managed care, community-based public health research, and delivery and evaluation of continuing professional education programs.

Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC/JSPH
This two-year fellowship program, established in 1995, and offered in conjunction with Thomas Jefferson University, provides training and exposure to the various aspects of outcomes research in the academic and industrial settings. The program is structured to assist the fellow in identifying future career opportunities in outcomes research while learning and working in a challenging post-graduate environment.
In year one of the program, the fellow is educated on outcomes research methodology through project experience and didactic studies at Thomas Jefferson University. The fellow participates as a member of the research staff at the Jefferson School of Population Health, designing and conducting projects, and disseminating findings through manuscript preparation and presentation at professional meetings.
In year two, the fellow will work with the Outcomes Research Department at Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC in New Jersey to learn how outcomes research is used to assess the value of therapeutic interventions. The fellow will gain experience using clinical, economic, and humanistic data to support the research, development, adoption, and utilization of pharmaceutical products. The fellow also interacts with other departments at OMJSA to learn how outcomes research generates evidence of the value of J&J products.

Daiichi Sankyo, Inc./JSPH
This two-year health economics and outcomes research fellowship provides individuals with the skills required to conceptualize, implement, evaluate, and disseminate the results of health economics and outcomes research. The fellow will develop the research skills required to evaluate the quality, safety, and cost of pharmaceuticals, and will be encouraged to attend and present at regional and national meetings and conferences during the program. Graduates will be well prepared for positions with the pharmaceutical industry, pharmacy benefit managers, health insurers, academia, and consulting practices.
During the first year, the fellow will work at the Jefferson School of Population Health. There, the fellow will be assigned to manage specific outcomes research projects. It is planned that at least one of these projects will be conducted in conjunction with Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. The primary role of the fellow is to actively participate in the School’s ongoing research related to applied health economics and outcomes research. Fellows will have the opportunity to attend and present at JSPH's research meetings, journal clubs, health policy forums, sponsored educational programs, and may also contribute to any one of several graduate-level courses taught by JSPH faculty. This year, under the guidance of a DSI preceptor, the Fellow will work directly with the Health Economics and Outcomes Research department at DSI. The Fellow will be involved in the planning and completion of research involving currently marketed drugs and pipeline drugs across various disease states. This corporate experience will allow the Fellow to further develop project management skills, while gaining additional scientific experience in health economics and outcomes research. In addition to project work, the Fellow will continue to participate in meetings and conferences to share his/her work while further developing networking and presentation skills.
