MD/PhD Students Successful in Sigma Xi

David Ritter (JCGS 3, Neuroscience), in the laboratory of Dr. Manuel Covarrubias, received a Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research Award for $1000 in the March 2012 round of funding. The Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research program has been providing undergraduate and graduate students with valuable educational experiences for more than 80 years by awarding grants of up to $1,000 to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering.


David Hoang (JCGS 2, Molecular Pharmacology & Structural Biology) was the winner in the MD/PhD category during the Thomas Jefferson University Chapter Sigma Xi 2012 Student Research Day Poster Competition. David’s poster, “Stat5a/b Promotes Castrate-Resistant Growth of Prostate Cancer through AR-dependent and AR-independent Molecular Mechanisms” describes his research with his thesis advisor, Dr. Marja Nevalainen.
