Meet our Staff: Gulbin Ozcan-Deniz, Ph.D, LEED AP BD+C
Dr. Ozcan-Deniz is an associate professor in the Jefferson College of Architecture and the Built Environment, and was recently named the director of the college’s Construction Management Programs. Dr. Ozcan-Deniz and her team also led the BS in Construction Management program through the process of ABET accreditation, which ensures graduates of the program are qualified and prepared to enter their chosen field.
Dr. Ozcan-Deniz earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. She continued her advanced studies in the United States and earned a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Florida International University. She has also gained substantial practice experience in several related fields as a planning engineer, civil engineer and structural engineer. As a LEED Accredited Professional with a Building Design and Construction Specialty (LEED AP BD + C), she contributes to CABE’s mission as a leader in sustainable practice. Dr. Ozcan-Deniz’s research centers on sustainable construction and the pedagogical aspects of Building Information Modeling and she has published numerous articles and papers on these topics.
What does Dr. Ozcan-Deniz’s job entail?
I’m responsible for leading and growing all of Jefferson’s Construction Management programs. I work directly with our Industry Advisory Board to build and sustain strong ongoing relationships with the professional construction community and mentor and support Construction Management faculty. As an associate professor, I have been active in research activities such as obtaining grants, publishing peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, and presenting Jefferson as a journal reviewer, grant reviewer, and presenter in outside organizations. I have been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in all formats (on-campus, hybrid, and online) and participated in CABE’s service activities.
