Discover the vibrant art, culture, and history of the Silk Road through this immersive Uzbek Textiles short course from March 7 – 16, 2025. Visit the study away site to learn more and apply. This opportunity is open to all Thomas Jefferson University students.
This course celebrates the love of color and pattern in textiles, fashion, interiors, and architecture, and you'll get to expierence the height of style in bustling global cities in Central Asia.
The Paul J. Gutman Library's Textile and Costume Collection, located on the Thomas Jefferson University — East Falls Campus, includes garments from this area of the world. An example includes the Ikat robe (left). This trip will help us unlock even more about their design, history, and creation.
During the trip, students and faculty will stay in small, local hotels, including one managed by an ikat artist. With our personal Uzbek expert guide, each day will involve direct interaction with master artisans, tours of significant sites, and immersion in the rich culture of Uzbekistan.
