Meet Our Alumni: Isaac Buxton

Isaac is a 2024 graduate from the Bachelor of Architecture program and holds a minor in Photography.

Why did you choose Jefferson?

I had a handful of mentors growing up as I was pursuing architecture. Almost all the mentors graduated from Jefferson (formerly Philadelphia University) and it just made sense to me. Jefferson has an incredible balance of conceptual and tectonic design thinking that is still evident today.

Where are you from originally?

I am from Macungie, Pennsylvania – the Lehigh Valley.

What was the best part of your studies?

Whether it was a general education course or a visualization studio, every class offered a space for creative exploration. Through writing, or videography, photography, presentations, or even projects themselves, each class became a catalyst that energized design studio. Some influences were more direct than others, or took more effort, but the connections were always fluid. Seamless yet non-linear and they continually challenged and expanded the understanding of what truly architecture is.

What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?

During my 5th year in school, I took a gap semester and moved to the West coast where I met inspiring, talented individuals in the city of Seattle and the beautiful landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. I also had the opportunity to intern at Olson Kundig, working on a multitude of projects and scales.

Tell us about an award you’ve recently received.

I received the AIA Pennsylvania’s Architectural Excellence Student Award, recognizing exceptional scholastic achievement and future promise in December. Just recently, I also received the METROPOLIS Future100 Award, selected by a Panel of METROPOLIS experts between North America and Canada.
