The 34-credit Undergraduate Certificate in Medical Coding and Data Quality combines traditional academic coursework with hands-on coding experience. The program emphasizes ethical and regulatory policies necessary to produce accurate high-quality coding data that support the economic vitality of the US healthcare system. During the capstone/practicum course, students will apply knowledge from courses they have taken throughout the program using a virtual lab that gives students online access to realistic patient cases and hands on experience with leading technology used in today's healthcare environments. The medical coding certificate will help students succeed in the Health Information Management field, which is expected to grow by over 8% (twice the average for all occupations) through 2032, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Students in our Medical Coding & Data Quality Certificate program are prepared for entry-level medical coding positions in a physician's practice, hospital, rehabilitation center, skilled nursing facility, and other healthcare settings.
