Biography
Mr. Nitsch is an Assistant Professor, and the Emergency and Disaster Management Program Director. Prior to academia, Mr. Nitsch served as the Director for the Bureau of Technological Hazards for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. In addition, he worked in the private sector as a consultant that provided various emergency management and public health preparedness services. Additionally, Mr. Nitsch has served as a Medical and Rescue Specialist with the Pennsylvania Urban Search and Rescue Task Force, the Medical Team Leader with the Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team, and as a Personal Security Specialist and medic in support of the U.S. State Department’s diplomatic security mission in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mr. Nitsch has earned a Masters of Public Health and is completing a doctoral degree in Public Policy with a focus on foreign policy. He has also lectured extensively on various emergency medical service and public health topics. He has a particular interest in displaced populations and their unique needs and vulnerabilities. In addition, he also volunteers his time as part of international medical service teams that provide medical clinics and public health oversight to underserved populations.
