Meet Our Alumni: Evan Lyons

Evan is a graduate from Jefferson’s Law & Society program and has a minor in visual communication design.

Where are you from originally?

I was born in Bucks County, PA but grew up in York, PA.

What was the best part of your time at Jefferson?

Honestly, I loved it all and miss it often. During my freshman and sophomore years I got to experience the incredibly intense and exciting late-night studio sessions for my design classes. I had never experienced anything quite like that before. It altered my perception of what it meant to grind for something and taught me many valuable lessons on time management.

What has having a Jefferson degree done for you and how has it prepared you for your career?

Jefferson has an incredible network of professors eager to help achieve your goals. I’ve found invaluable mentorship through these connections, even after I graduated. Every course for Law & Society is rooted in the real world, so you can immediately apply what you’ve learned to make an impact in your local community.

Most recently, Prof. Samuel Weeks and I co-authored a book chapter that has finally been made open-access (which can be found through the Jefferson Digital Commons link here https://jdc.jefferson.edu/jchsfp/27/. This would not have been possible without Jefferson’s incredible faculty and resources.

What are you doing now?

I am preparing for graduate school and volunteering overseas. I like to write about current events and topics on history, law, and politics.

What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?

I’m passionate about collecting books. I have over three hundred books (and counting) in my personal library.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to our current students?

Students have a long tradition of standing up for peace and justice in the world. You have a powerful voice only if you decide to use it (which you totally should).
