Forensic Science
Thomas Jefferson University in partnership with The Center for Forensic Research and Education offers two unique programs designed to position students for advancement and professional development focused in the field of forensic science. Graduates will be qualified for employment opportunities in crime laboratories at the federal, state and local levels, private labs, military facilities, hospitals, academic centers and industry.
Master's in Forensic Toxicology
Forensic Toxicology is the study of adverse effects of drugs and chemicals on biological systems.
Includes:
- Post Mortem Toxicology: establish the causation of death by identifying and quantifying the presence of drugs and toxic chemicals in blood and tissue samples collected at autopsy
- Human Performance Toxicology: effects of alcohol and drug use on human performance and behavior
- Workplace Drug Testing: identify drug use by employees in the workplace in safety sensitive positions
This program is designated as a Professional Science Master’s (PSM). PSM is a graduate/professional degree grounded in science and designed for a variety of career options in business, government or non-profit organizations.
Master's in Forensic Biology
Forensic Biology is the study of biological fluids and tissues for the purposes of identification and individualization via serological and genetic analysis.
Includes:
- Serological testing: the detection and identification of biological fluids such as blood, semen and saliva from physical items of evidence
- Genetic testing: the individualization of that stain through molecular techniques in order to produce a DNA profile
