Jefferson Launches Collaborative Nurse Scientist Program

Jefferson Health and Thomas Jefferson University College of Nursing have launched a collaborative new program to support nursing research and transform how nursing care is delivered.

The Nurse Scientist Program supports nurses across Jefferson interested in exploring research and publishing research studies. The program provides clinical nurses and academic nurses the opportunity to work in tandem to enhance evidence-based practice, conduct nursing research and share new knowledge.

“The Nurse Scientist Program serves as a bridge between clinical nurses, who are able to identify opportunities for research, and academic nurses, who have expertise in rigorous study design,” said Joanne P. Robinson, PhD, RN, CNE, FAAN, Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at Thomas Jefferson University College of Nursing.

Together, these teams aim to translate the insights and observations gained into improved patient care and comfort.

“This collaborative program will enhance patient care, develop scholarship and give our nurses the opportunity to disseminate their work to contribute to the science of nursing,” said Bea Leyden, DNP, MBA, RN, CPHQ, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President, Nursing Practice Learning and Scholarship at Jefferson Health.

Dr. Robinson and Dr. Leyden designed and currently co-lead this program, which has nurse-scientists embedded in hospitals and clinical settings across Jefferson.

In addition to supporting research and enhanced nursing care, the program highlights Jefferson’s continued commitment to engage, retain and support nurses through strategic initiatives and collaboration.
