Biography
April M. Taylor is the vice president and chief operating officer for The Johns Hopkins Hospital, a 1,100-bed academic medical center. In her role, Taylor works closely with physician and administrative leaders across the hospital to drive operational excellence, helping to ensure that care is safe, of the highest quality, and accessible to patients.
Taylor joined Hopkins as vice president of quality in November 2020 from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she spent 14 years in positions of increasing responsibility, including as senior director of performance improvement and project management and director of quality and patient safety. She was also director of strategic operations for the Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Safety at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. Prior to that role, Taylor worked in quality for Catholic Health East, now Trinity Health.
A trained statistician with extensive experience applying performance excellence strategies, Taylor has distinguished herself as a leader through various professional roles, including chair of the National Association for Healthcare Quality’s Healthcare Quality Certification Commission and lead examiner for the Mid-Atlantic Alliance for Performance Excellence. She also serves on the board of directors for Humanim, a Maryland nonprofit human service organization.
