Expertise & Research Interests

Short non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are involved in the regulation of various cellular processes and are often associated with disease pathogenesis. My research interests lie primarily in the area of RNA biochemistry and RNA-seq to elucidate the biogenesis mechanisms and molecular functions of short ncRNAs. I have particularly focused on tRNA-derived fragments, and am interested in how tRNA fragments regulate cell proliferation in cancer cells and cell adhesion pathway in airway muscle cells in asthma. I am also interested in the regulation of endoribonucleases and aim to understand how RNases cleave substrate RNA to produce short ncRNAs.
