Alan R Cherney, MD MSc is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. His primary, non-clinical role is as the Medical Director of the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Emergency Department (TJUH ED). In this role, he is charged with ensuring that the day-to-day clinical operations of the TJUH ED provide the highest quality care to a diverse and complex patient population. His interests include improving ED throughput, providing evidence-based care and interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance outpatient care and follow-up.
He is the Jefferson Health Emergency Medicine enterprise lead for the Care Coordination Extenders (CCE) Project, which facilitates expedited outpatient advanced imaging studies for patients seen in any Jefferson ED.
Many of Dr. Cherney's other collaborations focus on facilitating timely follow-up instead of admission to the hospital for expedited care. His primary academic role is as the thread director of evidence-based medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College. He is charged with teaching almost 300 medical students each year how to approach patient care in a scientific way, as well as how to interpret and evaluate medical literature. This allows Dr. Cherney the privilege to connect with the next generation of physicians and contribute to their education in a meaningful way.
