Research & Clinical Interests
We are a group of mechanistic cell biologists, whose long-term interest is to elucidate the fundamental links between mammalian cellular function, physiological function, and pathogenicity. The broad focus of our lab is to investigate the dynamic, transient, and lower-abundance organelle associated actin filaments in regulating inter-organelle communication and overall cellular homeostasis. Specifically we focus on two dynamic pools of actin filaments, one assembled on the Endoplasmic Reticulum and the other on dysfunctional mitochondria and ask mechanistic questions to understand how these under-appreciated filament populations regulate organellar/cellular physiology and pathology, specially in models of neurodegeneration and cardiovascular anomalies.
