Research & Clinical Interests
Dr. Shah is a board certified urologist with training and expertise in management of urologic cancers as well as benign urologic conditions. He completed a fellowship in Advanced Robotics, Laparoscopy and Urologic Oncology USC Institute of Urology, Los Angeles, California. Dr. Shah completed his urology residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his medical degree from Rutgers University – New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey. He graduated with Magna Cum Laude in Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was a merit scholar and inducted into the Honors Engineering Program during his time there.
Dr. Shah has training in complex open and robotic approaches for management of malignant and benign urological diseases. He has experience and interest in management of urologic cancers which include cancers of the prostate, kidney, bladder, ureter, penis, testis and adrenal gland. His other areas of focus include minimally invasive treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with special interest in the HOLEP procedure, urinary fistulae, and reconstruction of the upper urinary tract.
Dr. Shah’s research interests include health disparities in urologic malignancies, diversity and inclusion as well as improving medical student and resident education. Dr. Shah has an interest in global health initiatives to help provide urologic care to those underserved and was part of a surgical team that performed urologic surgery in Coya, Peru. Dr. Shah enjoys teaching medical students and trainees in and out of the operating room. He serves as a peer reviewer for several prestigious journals, such as Journal of Urology and Gold Journal of Urology. He has published numerous research articles in peer-reviewed journals, written book chapter and presented his research at several national meetings. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the Endourological Society and the Society of Robotic Urologic Surgeons.
In his free time, Dr. Shah enjoys spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies include cooking, traveling, golf, basketball, tennis, and painting.
Dr. Shah cares for patients at the Abington Hospital and at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and is available for general urology and specialty consultation.
