At a joy-filled ceremony on March 18, more than 250 Jefferson medical students found out where they would complete their residencies.

The Nexus has interviewed many members of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College Class of 2022 over the years. We wanted to take this opportunity to look back at their stories and share where they matched. Plus, check out more sights and sounds from this year’s Match Day in a video below.

Study Away Experience Reinvigorates Medical Student
Jamie Garden traveled to Jerusalem through the Jefferson Israel Center. “In a single moment in the ER, I watched generations of conflict disregarded in the face of delivering medical care,” she writes of her time there. Garden matched at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital for emergency medicine.

Movie Explores How Med Students’ Passions Will Make Them Better, Healthier Physicians

In his documentary “Medice, Cura Te Ipsum,” Ryan Emhoff follows five medical students who have maintained a strong connection to their identities outside of medicine. He developed the movie through the JeffMD curriculum. Emhoff matched at Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals for psychiatry.

Distressing COVID Scenes From India Inspire Medical Student to Take Action
With much of her extended family still living in Bangalore, Noor Shaik sparked an effort to collect pallets of PPE donations. Shaik matched at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for neurology.

Medical student activist Oluwatoni “Toni” Okuboyejo helped organize Jefferson’s White Coats for Black Lives Demonstration in 2020. Okuboyejo matched at Jefferson for family medicine.

Shandon Coffman, David Wilson and Saami Zakaria organized Jefferson’s first TEDx in 2019. Coffman matched at Jefferson for neurology; Wilson matched at the University of Cincinnati for emergency medicine; and Zakaria matched at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine for neurology.
