(ABET), https://www.abet.org, under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for ANSAC.

Program Educational Objectives

The Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program has the following educational objectives, to prepare graduates who have the ability to:

  • Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences such as owners, design professionals and code officials using appropriate media.
  • Collaborate across disciplines of construction project stakeholders and appreciate the benefit of that collaboration.
  • Find and evaluate relevant cost, schedule, quality and safety data and reach and defend conclusions based on sound analysis.
  • Create sound, innovative approaches to challenges faced by construction project teams.
  • Identify and evaluate the ethical choices faced by construction management professionals and formulate value-based responses.

Program Outcomes

Thomas Jefferson University's Construction Management Program has adopted the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC) [1-6] general criteria for Student Outcomes as listed below. Jefferson's Construction Management Program assesses and evaluates all student outcomes identified by the ABET-ANSAC. 

Graduates of the BS in Construction Management program will demonstrate an ability to:

  • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve broadly defined technical or scientific problems by applying knowledge of mathematics and science and/or technical topics to areas relevant to the discipline.
  • An ability to formulate or design a system, process, procedure or program to meet desired needs.
  • An ability to develop and conduct experiments or test hypotheses, analyze and interpret data and use scientific judgment to draw conclusions.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • An ability to understand ethical and professional responsibilities and the impact of technical and/or scientific solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  • An ability to function effectively on teams that establish goals, plan tasks, meet deadlines, and analyze risk and uncertainty. 

Program Topics

Jefferson's Construction Management Program includes the following topics as suggested by the ABET-ANSAC Accreditation:

  1. Construction project management from pre-design through commissioning;
  2. Risk management including identification, analysis, and mitigation;
  3. Cost estimating including types, levels, and accuracy;
  4. Financial management including budgeting, cost control, and forecasting;
  5. Schedule management including development, forecasting, and planning;
  6. Contract administration, legal requirements and delivery methods;
  7. Project sustainability including materials, methods of construction;
  8. Construction systems and constructability analysis;
  9. Leadership including business, communication skills, and behavioral awareness;
  10. Labor and workforce planning and management;
  11. Construction health and safety, accident prevention, and regulatory compliance;
  12. Advancements in construction technology.
