The Thomas Jefferson University fashion design program has a semester study abroad program in Rome at the Center for Architecture and Fashion at UARC.

In addition to full semester study abroad opportunities, we also have partnerships with programs around the world including Milan, Tokyo and Paris for short course and faculty led options.

Through international experiences, fashion design students develop a cross-cultural mindset as they deepen their design skills. They learn to recognize, import and anticipate trends. It is an education that gives them a competitive edge in fashion's global marketplace.

Rome Highlight

Located in the heart of Rome at the beautiful Palazzo Taverna, the Center for Architecture and Fashion at UARC is a truly inspirational program that gives our students first-hand experience of Italian fashion, architecture, art, history, and culture. The academic quality of this program is monitored by TJU faculty, and it is a perfect fit for Thomas Jefferson University fashion design students.

Studio courses are taught by Italian stylist and costume designer, Antonella Buono. As a designer, Professor Buono helps navigate the fashion scene in Italy, training students to see design from an Italian perspective. In the studio, she guides students in understanding design principles and utilizing illustration skills as they relate to concept and line development for a specific market. Costume designer Esther Kowalski teaches Pattern Development II and III.

While studying at UARC, students live in apartments located in the center of Rome. The apartments are in traditional, well-established neighborhoods, such as Trastevere and Monteverde; lively areas that are full of markets, cafes and restaurants. Students will have a "full immersion" experience as they live and shop among the local Italians.

Studio Abroad - Freshman Paris Highlight

Freshman students have the opportunity to study in Paris during the spring break. The three credit elective short course will have you studying in the morning, visiting Parisian landmarks like the Louvre and The Palace of Versailles and exploring all that the City of Lights has to offer.
