Clinical experience is supplemented by weekly seminars in which case discussion and didactic instruction ensure that Fellows meet the learning objectives of the curriculum. Fellows are responsible for providing 3-4 core didactics on assigned topics to assist with development of a teaching portfolio. We include journal club, case presentations and board review.

We provide a core professional development curriculum including topics such as job search and contract negotiations, medical and grant writing, and work life balance.

Fellows are expected to complete a Quality Improvement project throughout the year. They participate in quality improvement curriculum provided by our research faculty and are paired with a mentor based on their interests.

There are ample opportunities for teaching residents, medical and interprofessional students throughout the fellowship.

Fellows receive support and participate in the additional experiences:

  • Vital Talk Communication Series - In a series of high-fidelity simulations shared with the TJUH palliative fellows, fellows have a safe space to practice fundamental communication skills facilitated by VitalTalk trained faculty.
  • Montreal Cogntive Assessment Certification – time and financial support to complete certification
  • Fellows Most Difficult Case Conference – participate in monthly series with fellows from across the country to gain insights from geriatric psychiatry faculty on difficult cases
  • ECHO series– participate in various ECHO series as offered throughout the year by our Jefferson Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education. Examples have included Age Friendly Health Systems and mental health needs of older adults.
  • AGS – fellows receive support and are encouraged to attend the annual meeting of the American Geriatric Society.
