Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship Tracks

Clinical Research Track

36 months

Clinical experiences primarily in Center City - Philadelphia, with options for outpatient clinics at other sites in the PGY5 and PGY6 years.

Scholarly Work Expectations:

  • At least one abstract submission to ASH or ASCO.
  • At least two manuscripts submitted to a peer-reviewed journal.
  • At least one clinical trial drafted.
  • Application to AACR/ASCO workshop (“Vail”).

Masters in Clinical Pharmacology – Human Investigation Track is strongly encouraged.

PGY6 year – IRB or PRC participation.

Translational or Basic Science Track

36 months with option for an extra year as part of a T32 Training Grant.

Clinical experiences primarily in Center City - Philadelphia.

Scholarly Work Expectations:

  • At least two abstract submission to ASH, ASCO, AACR, or similar.
  • At least one manuscript submitted to a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Application to AACR/ASCO workshop (“Vail”).

Clinical Practice Track

36 months

Clinical experiences generally divided between Center City - Philadelphia (2/3) and another Jefferson site (Jefferson - Abington, Jefferson - Methodist, Jefferson - New Jersey) (1/3), although all experiences might be in Center City, based on fellow’s needs.

Scholarly Work Expectations:

  • At least one abstract submission or peer-reviewed manuscript (e.g., Quality Improvement projects with submission to ASCO Quality meeting).

Quality Improvement Curriculum required.

PGY6 year – IRB or PRC participation.

ABIM Research Pathway*

36 months with option for an extra year as part of a T32 Training Grant.

Clinical experiences primarily in Center City - Philadelphia.

*Candidates for the ABIM Research Pathway will complete two years of Internal Medicine Residency (PGY1 and PGY2), and start fellowship in the PGY3 year. Following the PGY3 clinical year in Medical Oncology or Hematology, the fellow will spend the PGY4, 5, and 6 years in the lab/research arena. Fellows who plan dual certification in Hematology and Medical Oncology will complete 18-24 months of clinical Hematology and Medical Oncology prior to entering the lab; thus, extending the fellowship to a PGY7 year.
