The Enterprise Department of Radiation Oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center - Jefferson Health offers state-of-the-art technology to provide cutting-edge cancer treatment for patients with various types of malignancies. Across our five hospital locations in the tri-state area, we offer the following treatment modalities:  

  • Eight (8) megavoltage linear accelerators and range of electrons
  • ViewRay MRIdian magnetic resonance-guided linear accelerator
  • Brachytherapy interventional suite equipped with Elekta’s Imaging Ring, HDR MicroSelectron afterloader, and Biodex and Zypher patient transfer tables. 
  • MR-based GYN planning with advanced Venezia applicators
  • Two (2) CT Simulators
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy
  • Gamma Knife
  • Intensity modulated radiation therapy
  • Volumetric modulated arc therapy
  • Total body irradiation and total skin electron therapy

We also offer diagnostic and therapeutic uses of radioactive isotopes:

  • Lu-177 for metastatic prostate cancer (first in the Greater Philadelphia region)
  • Low-Dose Rate (LDR): Sirspheres and Theraspheres Y-90 radioembolization (liver-directed therapy with Radiology)
  • Ra-223 for prostate bony metastasis
  • I-125 plaque brachytherapy for ocular malignancies (through a unique collaborative program with Wills Eye Hospital)
  • Cs-131 for head and neck malignancies
  • HDR: Ir-192 for gynecologic, prostate, endobrochial, breast, and skin cancers
  • Sr-90 for intervascular brachytherapy with cardiology
  • Cloud-based planning systems with Eclipse and Brainlab for external beam and Oncentra for HDR and MimSymphony for Cs-131
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital offers MR-guided radiation therapy at its Center City campus with the ViewRay MRIdian linear accelerator.
