Objectives

To increase the recruitment of diverse trainees into the specialty of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

To support fourth-year students, including those who identify as Underrepresented Minority (URM), to explore an interest in rehabilitation medicine.

Program Description

  • 4-week Rehab Medicine Rotation to occur at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia during Summer or Fall of 2024
  • Students will spend time on inpatient rehab unit at Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation Hospital – Center City as well as in outpatient clinic in center city or Navy Yard location
  • Students will gain experience with a wide array of PM&R topics and patient populations
  • Students will prepare a short 3-5 minute presentation on an interesting topic or patient they encountered during the rotation
  • Students will participate in educational conferences which are held once per week on Wednesday mornings

Who Should Apply

This program is open to qualified applicants, including but not limited to students who identify as underrepresented in medicine as defined by AAMC and/or HRSA and/or disadvantaged as defined by NIH. Other qualifications include:

  • Students must be in their 4th year at the time of rotation (however may apply during their MS3 year)
  • Students must have completed all of their core clerkships prior to participation
  • Students must be enrolled in their final year of medical school in good academic standing
  • Students must meet all requirements of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University for visiting students
  • Students must formally apply to the medical school electronically through VLSO to REHAB MEDICINE. For more information, go to our Visiting Student Page or clinical electives.
  • Preference will be given to applicants outside of the Greater Philadelphia Metropolitan Area
