Our division provides expert trauma care, surgical critical care, emergency surgery services and surgical rescue at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
For over 30 years, Jefferson has been an accredited Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center serving the local Center City community as well as a referral center for the multiple suburban communities and Level II trauma centers outside of Philadelphia.
We provide comprehensive complete care of acutely ill and injured patients. In addition to being a Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center, Jefferson is also a:
- Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center,
- Hand Injury Center,
- Burn Center
- Eye referral center (Wills Eye Hospital)
Like many urban centers, the trauma patient population at Jefferson is primarily composed of blunt trauma (84%) as opposed to penetrating trauma (16%), with an equal number of direct admissions (48%) versus transfers (52%).
We record approximately 3,000 trauma patient contacts annually.
