What does this program prepare you to do?
The BS in Health Sciences – Health Professions Pathways program offers working adults the opportunity to complete all necessary prerequisite course work necessary to enroll into a healthcare related bachelor degree program in respiratory therapy, nursing, medical imaging, medical laboratory science, biotechnology or cytotechnology.
What is the difference between the Health Professions Pathways program and the actual professional bachelor program?
The Health Professions Pathway programs are the pre-professional phase during which students complete all necessary prerequisite coursework. Students must meet the GPA and experience qualifications at the pre-professional level to progress to the professional phases of a health profession program in respiratory therapy, nursing, medical imaging, medical laboratory science, biotechnology or cytotechnology. The professional bachelor programs provide the education and experience required for professional licensure and practice.
Why should I enroll into the BS in Health Sciences – Health Professions Pathways instead of taking pre-requisite courses as a non-degree/non-matriculated student?
Students that enroll into the BS in Health Sciences – Health Professions Pathways will be eligible for financial aid and employer tuition reimbursement benefit. Students in the Health Professions Pathways program will also receive personalized advising from academic advisors and faculty to make sure they are on pace to transition into the professional phase of the program. Students taking courses as a non-degree/non-matriculated students are not eligible for financial aid.
Does this program have any in person/virtual meeting times?
The BS in Health Sciences – Health Professions Pathways learning format is currently fully online, mostly asynchronous. Few live sessions are scheduled during the 8-week term but they are not mandatory. In the future, some science laboratory courses may also be offered as an in-person course at the East Falls campus.
Can I earn a BS in Health Sciences – Health Professions Pathways degree?
No, after completing the pathway curriculum (50-60 credits) students will need to transition either into the professional program they have chosen or into the Accelerated BS in Health Sciences. Students who transition into the Accelerated BS in Health Sciences will need to complete the remaining coursework to earn the BS in Health Sciences degree (120 credits).
What if a student does not meet the progression requirements into the chosen health profession program?
If a student does not meet the GPA requirement or any other academic progression requirements for the chose professional program, then the student will transfer into the Accelerated BS in Health Sciences or another Accelerated bachelor program of their choice.
