Ethicon

Carolina Castagna received her MD from the Università Sapienza in Rome, Italy, in January 2018. She completed her residency in Hygiene, Preventive Medicine, and Public Health at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Rome in October 2023. Her career has always been oriented toward research, epidemiology and population health. During her residency, Carolina had the opportunity to spend some time abroad, earning an MPH from Thomas Jefferson University in July 2023. She refined her research skills there, focusing on health policy, biostatistics, social determinants of health (SDOH), and digital health equity. Her collaboration with biotech industries began during her post-doctoral training, where she worked on vaccination policy projects, health technology assessment (HTA), and patient-reported outcomes research, within European companies. Her interest in health economics & outcomes research (HEOR) and market access was sparked when she moved to the United States, realizing the critical role these fields play in improving patient access to healthcare services, innovations and technology.

Through the JCPH Fellowship, Carolina aims to develop a solid foundational knowledge and acquire essential skills in HEOR and market access to improve patient outcomes and enhance access to health services.
