Doctoral Fellowship in Primary Care Research & Transformation

Interested in a Primary Care Research focus for your PhD?

The Primary Care Research Fellow will be supported to conduct primary care research under combined mentorship from research faculty and health systems leaders. Fellows will receive a stipend, full tuition remission and additional support for research and travel. Awards are renewable for a second year depending on progress.

Eligibility

Incoming students enrolling full-time in the PhD program at the Jefferson College of Population Health who are interested in conducting research related to primary care are eligible for this fellowship. Any full-time Jefferson employee will not be able to retain full-time employment if accepting the fellowship.

Research

Research will be aligned with the key organizational initiatives and transformation activities within Jefferson Primary Care, which provides comprehensive care, longitudinal, relationship-based care to 600,000 people in the greater Philadelphia region; and will be designed to impact the future of primary care in our own system and beyond. 

Examples of areas of work may include:

  • Health equity & preventive care services
  • Social needs screening & linkage
  • The Person-Centered Primary Care Measure
  • E-consults
  • Interprofessional care team redesign
  • Integrated behaviorial health
  • Population-based approached to chronic disease (e.g. diabetes, CHF)
  • Evaluation of value-based care models
  • Artificial intelligence in primary care

Application Process

JCPH Doctoral Fellows will be nominated by departmental admission committees based on academic excellence and interest in primary care research (e.g., health disparities in family medicine) as expressed in their doctoral application.
