Spread the Science NOT the Virus Safety Series

Spread the Science, NOT the Virus Safety webinar series was offered by JCPH and the states’ hospital associations January - June 2021.  During planning and response to COVID-19, hospitals were first and foremost attuned to keeping patients as safe as possible. With a novel virus, unknown and untested treatments, and unpredictable impacts of the virus on different patients, the hospitals had to establish processes and practices that would save the most lives and prevent the most harm while patients were under their care.  

Hospital associations from Louisiana, Michigan, Florida, Colorado, Minnesota, and Texas shared their approaches to safe care during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Ensuring a safe environment for patients, caregivers, and ancillary staff is job one for hospitals.  The unique challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic required hospitals to create/recreate spaces and processes in the midst of a crisis.  How might the lessons-learned inform environments of care in the future?  

Many hospitals and health systems are altering practice in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This presentation will highlight best practices that can be implemented to keep moms and babies safe during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum stages of pregnancy. 

In the face of a fall surge of COVID-19 hospitalizations, Colorado hospitals collaborated to create a tiered transfer process of COVID-19 patients, the Combined Hospital Transfer Center (CHTC). The CHTC functioned as a true partnership among hospitals across the state to allow the safe transfer of patients with COVID-19  from hospitals that had reached capacity to hospitals with bed availability. Colorado Hospital Association will share how the CHTC was created and implemented, the challenges faced and strategies for overcoming those challenges.
