Interprofessional Training

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Thomas Jefferson University is committed to training medical and behavioral health professionals to provide the highest level of OBGYN care based on the latest scientific evidence. Our professional students practice as part of collaborative, interprofessional teams of providers with the goal of delivering outstanding, patient-centered care.

Our OBGYN training opportunities extend beyond medical students, residents and fellows to doctoral psychology, physician assistant and nurse practitioner students.

Psychology Externship

Thomas Jefferson University Obstetrics and Gynecology offers a psychology externship for up to two doctoral psychology students in their fifth year of training. The psychology externs run a free counseling clinic under the supervision of our full-time, clinical psychologist, Andrea Braverman, PhD. The clinic offers short-term, six-week courses of counseling mainly focused on cognitive-behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). OBGYN attendings and residents can refer patients to the free extern counseling service for therapy. Our department practices whole-person care and recognizes the importance of offering counseling services to our patients as they navigate the ups and downs of their healthcare journeys.

Please contact Andrea Braverman, PhD with any questions.

Physician Assistant Clinical Rotation

Thomas Jefferson University Obstetrics & Gynecology is a designated clinical rotation site for Jefferson Physician Assistant (PA) students during their second year of training. Over the course of the five-week rotation, PA students have direct experience in Outpatient Gynecology, Inpatient Labor & Delivery, Inpatient Surgery and Outpatient Ultrasound. During the rotation, PA students will have comprehensive, hands-on experience as part of a multidisciplinary care team, including both physicians and nurse practitioners.

Please contact Ashley Tran, CRNP, with any questions.

Nurse Practitioner Clinical Rotation

Thomas Jefferson University Obstetrics & Gynecology offers an intensive clinical rotation for Nurse Practitioner (NP) students, consisting of direct clinical experience for 16-24 hours per week over the course of a semester. Our OBGYN department has over 15 full-time certified registered nurse practitioners, giving NP students direct exposure to our scope of practice. During the rotation, NP students practice OBGYN care based on the latest scientific evidence and clinical guidelines, including hands-on experience performing routine gynecologic procedures and obstetric ultrasounds.

We accept NP students from Jefferson and other institutions. Please contact our OBGYN education coordinator with any questions.
