Sports Medicine Fellowship

This fellowship provides a fully integrated approach to the diagnosis and management of the full spectrum of athletic injuries.

This fellowship is designed to provide the most thorough clinical, surgical, academic, and research experience in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of injuries occurring in the full spectrum of sports.

The Thomas Jefferson University Sports Medicine Fellowship Program is based at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, located in Center City Philadelphia, as well as at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital, and Riddle Memorial Hospital in the suburban Philadelphia region, and AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in southern New Jersey. Additionally, the fellows work in the various outpatient Rothman Orthopaedic offices in the Delaware Valley and state of the art outpatient surgical facilities dedicated to arthroscopy and sports medicine. The fellows work with 12 sports medicine fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeons, in addition to three fellowship-trained primary care sports medicine physicians. This allows for a well-rounded sports medicine educational program.

The fellow is involved in the pre-participation screening of athletes at the professional, collegiate, and high college levels. Surgical experience includes the full breadth of arthroscopic and open treatment of hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow problems, as well as arthroplasty of the knee and shoulder. The fellow is involved with the management of the athlete in the clinic, on the athletic field, and in the operating room. The sports medicine fellowship is among the most comprehensive in the country, and the only fellowship to provide care for all four major professional sports teams.
