PharmD Timeline for Application

We encourage students to begin the application process about a year and a half before your intended start term of pharmacy school. Your best chance to be in the next pharmacy class is to complete the admissions process by December of the prior year. This timeline shows an example timeline:

Prerequisites

Although you do not need to complete all prerequisite courses before applying, you should have 50% of them complete (or be enrolled in) at the time of application. These courses may be taken at any accredited college or university. All science courses require a laboratory component. All prerequisites must be completed before beginning the PharmD program.

What is considered a competitive application?

A competitive application reflects a student who:

  • performs well academically, specifically in the prerequisite science courses, while managing a full course load. (A cumulative GPA and a science GPA of 2.7 is desired; 3.0 or higher is considered competitive.)
  • has evidence of contributing to their college community.
  • shows a commitment to assisting others.

The Admissions Information page has details about the prerequisites, supporting materials, technical standards and a link to the application.

Interview FAQs

How will Jefferson notify me if I get an interview?

  • The Admission Committee reviews all completed applications, and typically sends interview invitations by email within two weeks to the preferred email designated in your PharmCAS application.

What does a typical interview day look like?

  • The interview lasts about four hours and includes a program overview, campus tour, faculty interview and interactions with current pharmacy students and other applicants.

How should I prepare for the interview?

  • Dress professionally and arrive on time. If you are delayed, be sure to communicate that.
  •  Practice interviewing before the scheduled date to build your confidence. Take advantage of your career services center or get a friend to give you a mock interview.
  • Be prepared to articulate why you want to pursue a pharmacy degree, to communicate the information you included in your application, and to ask faculty and students questions about Jefferson.
