Program Director's Message

Have you ever had a conversation regarding a health-related issue and someone eagerly volunteers "You have to see their doctor?"  Based on their own experience, they are enthusiastic to share this person as the absolute best to provide clinical care, compassion, and solutions to their friends and family - I would bet this is a physician who trained at Jefferson.

Our goal in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is to provide our residents with the tools to build a productive, balanced, and fulfilling career as an outstanding internist!  By relying on our program leadership, our nationally recognized faculty, and our unique and diverse patient population, we promise our residents a superior clinical training.  We aid our residents in developing a wide breadth of medical knoweldge, coupled with a proficiency in clincal skills, and an ability to adapt to complex situations or challenging cases through the application of critical thinking and problem solving. We not only surround you with educators, but we also teach residents to become medical educators themselves.

The majority of our training takes place at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. This experience is complimented by rotations at affiliates in both the inpatient and outpatient arenas to round out our clinical training with a further variety in acuity, management style, patients, and pathology.  Our residents learn the importance of continuity care through the experiences and mentorship found in our Jefferson Hospital Ambulatory Practice.

As an internist, we also recognize the multitude of career paths that lie before you.  We support a personalized approach through electives, mentorship, formalized pathways, and research opportunities so that residents feel well equipped and competitive in moving forward beyond residency.  We also value the lives of our residents outside the hospital and promote a focus on wellness and camraderie to make these years not merely formative, but fun!

Welcome to our website which catalogues a lot of what our program has to offer.  We aim to shape you into a physician who possesses expertise, balances personal and professional satisfaction, and imbues a contagious enthusiasm that patients cannot wait to share with everyone!
