Clinical Facilities
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH) is a non-profit, teaching, quaternary care hospital with a level 1 trauma designation and 926 acute care beds. This hospital contains a 14 bed Neurologic Intensive Care Unit located on the 9th floor of this building. The neurologic diagnoses treated in this NICU include status epilepticus, meningoencephalitis, neuromuscular respiratory disorders, neuro-trauma, and acute spine disorders. The epilepsy reading room is located directly next to this unit. The inpatient facility includes a 1.5 and 3 Tesla MRI units, four spiral CT scanners (including two 64 detector and one 256 detector scanners as well as an interventional 64 detector CT scanner), and a suite for myelography.
Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience (JHN) is the only dedicated hospital for neuroscience in the Philadelphia region. Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience annually treats the largest combined volume of brain tumors, spinal cord injury, aneurysms and AVMs in the Philadelphia region. There are two Neuro-ICUs in this facility, a 10 bed unit on the 6th floor and a 16 bed unit on the 8th floor. JHN has a 1.5 and 3.0Tesla MRI units, a spiral CT, a portable CT scanner for the 2 ICUs, a linear accelerator, and a Gamma Knife unit. The INR Department includes two state-of-the-art neuro-angiography suites and the first intra-operative hybrid suite in the region. The hybrid suite enables the Endovascular Neurosurgeons to diagnose and treat complex neurovascular disease in the operating room endovascularly or surgically without ever leaving the suite.
