Confidentiality
The Student Counseling Center (SCC) counselors strive to uphold the clinical and ethical standards of their professions. Information provided in counseling by clients is confidential and information released to other parties will be done with a client’s written permission, except where authorized by law, such as where there is a reasonable suspicion of or potential for the abuse of children, elderly persons, or dependent adults, where the client presents a serious risk of violence to another person and/or imminent danger of serious harm to self.
Academic faculty will not have access to your SCC records or your attendance; students who request the release of protected health information to a third party will be asked to sign a written release of information form.
SCC counselors do not participate in academic or curricular evaluations of students. This ensures that there are no academic conflicts in their roles as counselors, and serves to protect your confidentiality and treatment.
Some students utilize both counseling and psychopharmacologic services at the SCC. The SCC utilizes a collaborative approach to the mental health treatment of students and may confer with each other as professionally necessary in order to provide students the best possible service. When students receive care from more than one SCC clinician, collaboration is essential to providing safe and high-quality care.
