Advanced Team SAFE

In Advanced Team Simulation & Fearlessness Education (Team SAFE), building upon the Introductory TeamSAFE program, students use the framework of the national Team STEPPS® program and apply clinical reasoning, team-building, and communication tools to enhance patient safety in a high-fidelity simulation. Students first complete pre-work, which provides a refresher on Team STEPPS® skills. During each Advanced Team SAFE workshop, interprofessional student teams simulate one scenario while practicing Team STEPPS® skills, with each student having the opportunity to act and to actively observe following a handoff of care mid-case.

• Assess Team STEPPS® strategies and tools and appropriate usage of them
• Demonstrate and collaboratively negotiate the use of Team STEPPS® strategies and tools in simulated scenarios
• Evaluate interprofessional team performance
• Critique individual performance
