Online Master of Public Health (MPH)

Jefferson’s Public Health Program (MPH) has been a leader in addressing critical public health issues and engaging students and faculty in projects that yield important community impact. In an effort to make this important training more accessible, Jefferson recently launched a fully online option for students interested in earning the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree.

The online MPH option is a flexible delivery option that can be tailored to the unique needs and interests of all students, including working professionals, busy clinicians, recent graduates, and dual degree learners.

The MPH program (online and in-person) is nationally accredited by the Council of Public Health Education (CEPH). Like our in-person MPH offering, online class sizes are small to ensure students get to know the faculty and one another. Students seeking an online training experience can choose from a host of online asynchronous or synchronous course offerings and will be invited to monthly virtual huddles with program faculty, staff, and guest speakers, where they can share their experiences and make important connections with others in and out of the classroom. Consistent with all training programs at the Jefferson College of Population Health (JCPH), faculty teaching in the MPH program are expert researchers and practitioners and all complete an intensive training program in best practices for in-person and online education before they enter the classroom. Jefferson's MPH program faculty are ready to meet students where they are and provide the training, guidance, and mentorship needed to help each student launch a meaningful career.

Program Audiences

The MPH program is designed for students who are seeking a career that combines science, policy, and social justice to improve health outcomes and promote health equity. The program engages learners who are recent graduates as well as working professionals seeking to enhance their research, advocacy, or evaluation skills. Students can study full-time, part-time, or on an accelerated pathway, and can choose to earn the degree fully online or by taking a combination of online and in-person classes.

Public health students come from a variety of backgrounds including:

  • Recent college graduates with majors in natural or social sciences, including pre-med or other pre-professional students seeking an educational experience during their gap or glide year.
  • College graduates with more relevant work experience wishing to enhance their health-related career or make a career change.
  • Students currently enrolled in a professional program (medicine, law, pharmacy, social work) who wish to earn an additional degree in public health as part of a dual degree program.
  • Physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, and other clinicians with terminal degrees in their respective fields wishing to expand their skill sets and reach. Note, students with a terminal degree can apply for advanced standing status.
  • Professionals working in government, community health organizations, non-profits, healthcare settings, health insurance companies, the pharmaceutical industry, and academic institutions.
  • Researchers, including research assistants, research coordinators, and program evaluators seeking additional training in study design, analysis, grantsmanship, implementation science, and publication.
