Yes, at Jefferson we have had a consistent supply of PPE (gowns, N95s, & face-shields). In fact, Jefferson ED residents are some of the only residents to have our own PAPR hoods. Residents are never put in a position where they have to compromise their safety to provide patient care.
Not necessarily, though most residents do end up having access to a car during their residency at Jefferson - Center City. As interns, a car is needed mainly needed for your first month of Peds EM at A.I. duPont in Wilmington, DE. Some residents without a car choose to borrow or rent during this month. As seniors, almost all off-service sites are accessible by public transportation, though having access to a car will make your life easier during those rotations.
PGY-2 residents have two weeks of elective time and PGY-3 are allotted four weeks. In the past residents have used this time to pursue fellowship interests, electives at Jefferson, as well as international opportunities.
