Department's Guide to Visa Sponsorship

Sponsoring H-1B Workers

H-1B sponsorship allows Jefferson to temporarily employ foreign nationals in specialty occupations.

Departments may seek H-1B sponsorship for new hires or current employees.

New hires include candidates coming from outside the U.S. and those already in the U.S. who have H-1B status with another employer or who hold a visa status other than H-1B.

Current employees require H-1B sponsorship when transferring from an immigration status other than H-1 B, such as F-1 or J-1.

The Office of International Services (OIS) helps departments determine which jobs and which individuals are eligible for H-1B sponsorship and works with both the department and Jefferson-approved immigration counsel to acquire and maintain H-1B status for eligible employees.
