Diversity, Inclusion & Social Justice
Diversity, Inclusion & Social Justice Committee
In light of repeated events highlighting racial disparities, the impact that oppression and injustice have had on the health and wellbeing of ourselves, families, friends, coworkers, patients and community and recognizing that our ultimate goal is "to optimize the health of all of our patients, families, and communities," in June 2020, we recommitted ourselves to take action against bias and towards justice and formed the Diversity, Inclusion & Social Justice Committee.
As a department, we decided it was time to look internally at ourselves and at how we can begin the work to address our inactivity or even our contributions to these issues.
Our Diversity, Inclusion & Social Justice Committee is comprised of various members of our department, including faculty, residents, researchers, and clinical and administrative staff members and meet regularly to charge forward in our work.
Objectives
- To increase awareness of racism, diversity and inclusion issues affecting our department, patient populations and community
- To identify and prioritize interventions that can increase Department responsiveness to racism, diversity and inclusion issues
- To develop a strategy and actionable steps that assure a Departmental commitment to social justice, health equity, diversity and inclusion
