The Radiology residency program is recognized as one of the top programs in the country. The goal of our residency program is to produce high quality radiologists, well trained in all aspects of Diagnostic Radiology, who will find themselves highly competitive for successful careers in both academic and private practice sectors. This is achieved by promoting a friendly and stimulating environment conducive to learning. The educational curriculum is continually updated in order to keep pace with the rapid advances in radiology. The design of the resident rotation schedule prioritizes the educational needs of the residents over the service needs of the department.
Our residents perform exceedingly well on the American Board of Radiology examinations. Since the inception of the ABR core examination, all graduating residents have passed. The Department faculty is active in counseling residents about their career choices and helping residents to secure the best possible positions upon completion of their training.
Many of our residents pursue academic careers, but our emphasis on competence in all aspects of radiology also prepares our residents well for private practice. All of the clinical rotations are located on the Jefferson campus with the exception of pediatric radiology and one rotation at our affiliated, community-based hospital. The pediatric rotation provides outstanding experience at the affiliated institution, A.I. duPont Hospital for Children. The rotation at our community hospital affiliate, Methodist Hospital, is three miles south of the Jefferson campus, staffed entirely by Jefferson radiologists, and gives residents an opportunity to experience working in the setting of a small, hospital-based practice.
Educational activities are based on the subspecialty expertise of faculty. Resident conferences, provided by attending radiologists, are held one to two times daily, and most of the divisions maintain extensive teaching files, which are available on-line.
