Letter from Chairman

It is with a deep sense of pride that I introduce our Department of Radiology founded in 1904. Today we have over 100 highly talented physicians and scientists committed to excellence in patient care, training future radiologists and scientists and advancing the field with a dedication to translational research to improve lives. 

The success of the Department of Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals has been largely due to our ability to balance the tripartite mission of academic medicine—clinical practice, education and research. More recently, we have built and embraced a 4th pillar—quality improvement—and it is with this quadripartite mission that envision an even stronger future. 

Our department faculty are nationally recognized leaders and outstanding educators all working to foster a nurturing and supportive environment for learning. We are a highly subspecialized department with the ability and expertise to provide instruction in all subspecialty areas. Our community divisions broaden the exposure beyond the academic center and our trainees receive well-rounded education affording them success in both academic and private sectors.  

To that end, our curriculum extends beyond traditional subspecialty content to include quality and safety topics, imaging informatics, the business of radiology, artificial intelligence and health services research. Our radiologists and researchers work as a team to trailblaze new imaging techniques and procedures on state-of-art equipment in various modalities. As a quarternary care academic institution with 11 hospitals and numerous outpatient imaging centers, we deliver care across a wide spectrum of the community and the entire gamut of conditions and diseases. 

Our department is well-known for its forward outlook and proactive approach to managing the practice. Our history of strategic and entrepreneurial leadership has placed us in a strong position to approach the future and our adherence to core values and mutual respect knits us tightly together. Ultimately, our success has depended on, and will continue to depend on, our strong leadership team, dedicated faculty and housestaff and hard-working and well-trained staff.
